Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” June 7, 1948:

Fred D. Haselton, 77, Ottumwa route 7, died at 5 p.m. Sunday at the St. Joseph hospital.

The son of Leonard and Maggie Haselton, he was born at Red Oak, July 2, 1870. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 28 years, and was a member of the Davis Street Christian church.

Surviving are his wife, Hattie; a son, Virgil Haselton, Rollins, N.M.; three stepsons, Harold Galland, St. Louis, Mo., Floyd Galland, San Antonio, Tex., and Tom Cason, Ottumwa; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Lillian McElroy, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Maxine Carter, Muscatine; a sister, Mrs. Roy Thayer, Centerville, and three brothers, Claude Haselton and Eugene Haselton, both of Peoria, Ill., and Vern Haselton, Centerville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Claude and Fred E. Haselton, the latter being killed in France during World war II.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. Donald H. Gill of First Christian church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.

Pallbearers will be C.O. Chance, Forrest Smith, Clem Edmondson, Jack Engstrom, Floyd King and Harold Bloss.
