Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” September 8, 1947:

Fred W. Herzog, 43, a switchman for the Milwaukee, died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was taken seriously ill the previous day.

Mr. Herzog was born in Ottumwa July 23, 1904, the son of John and Elizabeth Herzog. He lived in Ottumwa his entire life.

Surviving are his wife, Cora, his father, John Herzog, and a sister, Miss Margaret Herzog, all of Ottumwa.

Mr. Herzog was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, and a member of the local Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Lester Jay funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Gerhard Bunge, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran church. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery.
