Royce Pettit

Funeral services for Rev. Royce A. Pettit, 69, of Eldon Route 1, whose body was recovered from Lake Wapello on May 2, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Church of the Open Bible in Ottumwa.

The Rev. Eugene Wolfley and Dr. Charles Leaming will officiate. Burial: Ottumwa Cemetery.

The family will be at the Reece Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.

Pallbearers: John and Dennis Pettit, Jim Blucher, Robert and Dennis Martsching and Jack Rempe.

He was born May 30, 1911, in Davis County to William B. and Hallie Vey Downing Pettit and always lived in the Ottumwa area. He was a retired John Deere Ottumwa Works machinist and a retired minister. He was a member of Open Bible Church and had pastored the Alpine Church, Millers Chapel, Sherman Chapel and First Church of the Open Bible in Oskaloosa, retiring in May 1980 from the last. He has special ministry in nursing homes.

He had received the Pastor’s Incentive Award of the Open Bible Standard churches, Sunday School Enlargement Award and Retired Senior Volunteer Program Award. He married Enid I. Bradshaw on June 28, 1930.

Survivors: his wife; sons Ronald of Oskaloosa and Jerry of Normal, Ill.; a daughter, Beverly Jones of Eldon Route 1; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Audrel R. and Lowell W. of Sarasota, Fla., Oramel E. of Des Moines, William G. of California, Richard V. of Seattle, Wash., Melbourne B. of Ottumwa Route 2, Clare D. of Ottumwa and Robert L. of Centerville; and sisters LaVona H. Blucher of Burlington and Twila J. Rupe of Illinois.
