DEATH COMES AT 77 TO LEWIS O. PEPPER

Lewis O. Pepper 77; a lifelong resident of Wapello County died at the Ottumwa hospital Wednesday afternoon. He had been ill about two weeks. He lived at 1624 Albia Road with his wife. She survives.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas William Pepper. Mr. Pepper was born in Ottumwa September 18, 1878 and attended what is now Jefferson and Irving schools in Ottumwa. He married the former Anna Cornell of Ottumwa on November 21, 1900.

Mr. Pepper was widely known throughout this area of the state due in part to the fact that most of his life was spent in sales work; which called for considerable travel. In earlier years he also held memberships in both the Masons and the Elks.

Mr. Pepper went to work for John Morrell & Company as a salesman in December of 1932 and remained with that firm until his retirement in March of 1949.

Survivors in addition to his widow includes one daughter; Mrs. Robert T. Foster of Ottumwa and four sons; Lawrence of Ottumwa, Lewis D. of Rochester New York, Arthur C. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the Rev. Phillip E. Pepper of Waverly, Iowa. He is also survived by two sisters; Mrs. Adella Shea and Mrs. Franklin D. Adams of Miami, Florida.

The body is at the Jay funeral home where services will be conducted by the Rev. Frank L. Shaffer at 3:00 P.M. Friday. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers; the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the Wapello county chapter of the American Cancer society.
