Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” January 6, 1949:

Stroke Fatal to Eldridge McCall, 44

Eldridge E. McCall, 44, widely known Ottumwa carpenter, died at his home at 11:05 a.m. today.

Mr. McCall suffered a stroke as he was parking his car on Fourth street near the federal building at 9:30 a.m. Firemen gave him emergency treatment, and removed him to his home, 622 Wabash avenue.

He was a native of Iowa, born in Davis county January 9, 1893. His parents were Hiram O. and Nancy Etta McCall. He had lived in Ottumwa for 43 years, and had been associated with the Ottumwa Mill and Construction Co. for 26 years.

He was a member of the Free Methodist church.

His wife, Wilma, and three daughters and one son are among the survivors. The daughters are Mrs. Cletis Powers and Mrs. Vetis Hull of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Dorothy Johnston of Albert Lea, Minn. The son, Jerry Lee McCall, lives at home.

Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Nancy Etta Haney of Ottumwa, four grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Hazel Nason of Ottumwa, and four brothers, Ernest, Raymond, Harold, and Robert, all of Ottumwa. His first wife died in 1939, and his father in 1937. A sister and an infant son and infant daughter preceded him in death.

The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel awaiting completion of funeral arrangements.

“McCall Services,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” January 7, 1949:

Funeral services for Eldridge E. McCall of 622 Wabash avenue, who died at his home Thursday at 11:05 a.m. will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Free Methodist church in charge of the Rev. W.B. Keller, pastor, assisted by the Rev. E.W. Walls of Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. The casket will remain at the Johnson funeral chapel until noon Saturday, when it will be taken to the church.
