Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” Thursday, November 26, 1920:

JAMES S. HARLAN DIES IN ARKANSAS

James S. Harlan, aged 81 years, for many years a resident of Ottumwa, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Harlan, at Ft. Smith, Ark.

He is also survived by one brother, J.A. Harlan, 909 Sheffield street, and by Mrs. Catherine Davis, 909 Russell street.

Mr. Harlan was born Nov. 11, 1939 in Union City, Ind. He lived most of his life in Ottumwa, but for the past year made his home with his daughter in Ft. Smith.

The remains will arrive in the city tonight and will be taken to the Sullivan & Jay undertaking parlors, where services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock with Dr. F.E. Day of the First Methodist church in charge.
