Charles L. Newnam Dies At Age Of 78
Resident of Wapello County 75 Years.
Charles L. Newnam, 78 years old, was found dead at his home, 901 South Milner street, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Coroner Gordon Traul said death was due to natural causes.
Mr. Newnam was the son of John and Eliza Newnam, born in Indiana April 2, 1863. He had been a resident of Wapello county for 75 years, and of Ottumwa for the past 51 years.
He was formerly employed by the Walter T. Hall Candy Co. He worked in the shipping department for 44 years. He retired eight years ago.
Mr. Newnam was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. lodge No. 129.
Surviving are two sons, Harry of Lethridge, British Columbia, and Walter, in Missouri; three daughters, Effie of Eugene Ore., Reta of Kansas, and Mrs. Leora Bell of Hoxsie [sic], Kan. A brother, George W., of Ottumwa, also survives.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Johnson funeral chapel, with burial in the Shaul cemetery.
