Obituary From “Ottumwa tri-weekly courier,” February 12, 1914:

John Newnam, a retired farmer, died at the home of his son, George, on Lorella street, at 3:10 Tuesday afternoon, after an illness lasting about five months. He was 84 years old.

Mr. Newnam was born in Franklin county, Ind., June 26, 1829, and had been a resident of Wapello county since 1865. He was a member of the First M.E. church.

He is survived by three sons, George and C.E. of this city, and William of Memphis, Mo., one sister, Mrs. Ella Horber of Oskaloosa, besides twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from his son’s home on Lorella street Thursday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will be made in Round Point cemetery.
