Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier” October 4, 1955:
Mrs. Frances Jane Ray, 83, died Monday at 11:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.W. Hoogewoning, at 206 North Van Buren avenue.
Born in Davis county January 12, 1872, she was the daughter of James and Tennessee Porter Pottorff. She had lived in Ottumwa most of her life. She was a member of the Davis Street Christian church, of Enterprise Rebekah lodge No. 132, and of the American Legion auxiliary.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Prudence Hoogewoning and Mrs. Lucy Hoogewoning, both of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Bessie Olmstead of Davenport; three sons, Ralph Stribling and Eugene Ray, both of Ottumwa, and Roy Stribling of Newton; a half-sister, Mrs. Sylvia Dahlgren of Selma; a half-brother, Charles Pottorff of Fairfield, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, in charge of the Rev. LaVerne Morris, pastor of the Davis Street Christian church. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery.
