Elizabeth Houver 1832-1911

The funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Houver was held from the Methodist Episcopal Church on Tuesday February 21, 1911. The services were conducted by the pastor Rev. G. W. Barber. Mrs. Houver was born in Zanesville, Ohio, Oct. 1, 1832. She came west with her parents when she was 8 years old. She was married to William Houver in 1855. They settled in Chillicothe, Iowa, in 1856. To this union eight children were born, four of them dying in infancy. Her husband died in 1877. In 1882 she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Reece. In 1891 she bought a home near Salix, Iowa, where she made her home until her death. She was a member of the Chillicothe M. E. church. She is survived by four children: Mrs. J. W. Reece of Norfolk, Nebr., Mrs. Nettle Mevrard of Salix, Iowa, Mrs. I. Galland of Winnebago, Nebraska and Mark Houver of Salix, Iowa. She died at her home, in Salix, Iowa, February 18, 1911, aged 78 years, 4 months and 12 days.
