GRIM REAPER REMOVES BELOVED WOMAN—WAS PIONEER OF OTTUMWA.
A residence of sixty-six years in Ottumwa, during which she gathered about her a legion of friends by her loveable character, was brought to a close at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday night, when death called Mrs. Louise Jane Jones, Widow of H. B. Jones, at the family residence, 423 West Fourth street. Mrs. Jones was in her eightieth year.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence Rev. R. J. Locke, pastor of the First Congregational church, will conduct the services. Interment will be In the Ottumwa cemetery. The pall bearers will be William McNett, Edward Tisdale, Henry Merrick, Charles Connelly, Edward Loomis and George Capell. The death of Mrs. Jones removes a woman beloved by all who knew her. She was the daughter of John and Fidelia Armstrong Humphreys and was born in Springfield, Ohio June 15, 1831. Her father was one of the earliest settlers of this county, coming here in 1843 and entering 160 acres of land west of the city on what is now known as the Eddyville road. After building a house on the land and fencing it, Mr. Humphreys returned east to get his family, and in 1851 they began their residence in this vicinity. The decedent was married to H. B. Jones in 1851. Two sons were born to this union, Charles J. Jones dying when ten years of age, and Carroll P. Jones of this city, who survives Mr. Jones died in 1899. Mrs. Jones was one of the small company of Ottumwans who were present at the organization of the First Congregational church in 1846, and although she did not join at that time, she did shortly after and has since lived as a faithful and consistent member.
FUNERALS.
The last sad rites over the remains of Mrs. Louise Jane Jones widow of H. B. Jones, a pioneer of Ottumwa,
who passed away Wednesday night, were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the family residence. Rev. R. J. Locke, pastor of the First Congregational church, conducted the services. Many friends of the decedent attended
the last obsequies and the beautiful floral tributes attested her popularity in the community. The remains were interred in the Ottumwa cemetery. The pall bearers were William McNett, Edward Tisdale, Henry Merrick, Charles Connelly, Edward Loomis and George Capell.
