OBITUARY.
Mrs. Rebecca Ray.
Mrs. Rebecca Ray, wife of the late Joseph Ray, was born August 21, 1834, in Butler County, Pennsylvania. In the year 1856 she came with her family to Eddyville, Iowa, and made her home. One year after this occurred a happy event in her life when she married Joseph Ray of Altoona, Pa., when still a young girl in Butler County, Pa., Mrs. Ray confessed Jesus Christ as her Savior and united with the Lutheran church. After the East End Presbyterian church of Ottumwa was organized she was a steady attendant at the services as long as she was able. She was a woman of firm faith and rested in the comforts and consolations of God's word. She was always reverent towards the word of God and the things that pertain to His work in the world. During all of her sorrows and afflictions she always looked to God for help and received it bountifully. In the last hours of her life when her strength was failing, she made a strong profession of her faith in Christ to those about her. She was a faithful mother and always looked well to the interests of her household. She was also a good neighbor and made many friends who loved and esteemed her. During the past months her health began to fail and for some weeks she was confined to her bed. She finally departed this life, going to sleep peacefully in Jesus, Sunday evening. January 15, 1911, aged 76 years and five months. "Thou art my hiding place thou shalt preserve me from trouble thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance." Psalm 32:7. Her pastor during the past eight years, W. H. Hormel.
