Pioneer Woman Dies; Nearly 97
Mrs. J. A. Harlan, Lived In Wapello County From 1843 To 1926.
One of the pioneers of Wapello County and a resident here from 1843 until 1926, Mrs. Bellona Nosler Harlan, 96, widow of J. A. Harlan died at home of her daughter, Mrs. Hubert L. Hills, Tuesday at 7 PM. She was to have celebrated her 97th birthday anniversary Friday. She was born in 1839 in Putnam County, Indiana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Nosler, she was the last of the family of six children. Mrs. Harlan who had been a member of the Christian church here for 75 years, was married to J. A. Harlan, another pioneer the county, November 4, 1855. Mr. Harlan was closely associated with agricultural interests of early Wapello county days. He died in 1926, after which Mrs. Harlan moved to Des Moines. Surviving are seven children.
