Aged Ottumwan Dies On Sunday
Christina Harlen, 86, Had Been A Resident Here For The Last 65 Years.
Christina Harlen, 86 a resident of Ottumwa for 65 years died on Sunday at 11:55 PM at her home, 1001 E. 4th St. She was the daughter of Swen and Nellie Jepson and was born in Sweden, September 18, 1849. She came to the United States in 1867, living in Moline, Illinois, for three years before coming to Ottumwa in 1870 where she had lived since. She was married to Charles Harlen, October, 1874, in Ottumwa. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Alex Johnson of Munterville, Ella Harlen at home and Mrs. Harriet Wilson at home; one son Carl Harlen of Mead, Nebraska; one brother, John Jepson of Mead, Nebraska and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and four daughters, Verda, Virginia and two infants, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Marjorie Johnston. Short services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM at Johnson's funeral Chapel and at 2:30 PM at the First Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Malvin Lundeen. Burial be made in the Ottumwa cemetery.
