Local man's mother dies

Ceclilia Martin, 71, mother of Ronald Martin, 303 N. Sixth, Fairfield, died Monday in the Ottumwa hospital following surgery. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottumwa in charge of Rev. Wilbert Sondag.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary was recited at 5:30 p.m. today at the Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa.

Mrs. Martin was born March 26, 1908 in Hancock County, Ill., to George and Katherine Hammond Bergmieer. She spent most of her life in Ottumwa and worked for John Morrell and Co. for 25 years until retiring in 1970. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She was married to Lee F. Martin, April 1, 1923 in Ottumwa. The family home is at 1125 Hayne St.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mary Speer, Ottumwa and Constance Hendricks of Des Moines and one son, Ronald of Fairfield; also 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and two sisters, Martha Yoder and Marie Stewart, both of Ottumwa.
