Hobart Fitzgerald Jr.

Hobart Fitzgerald Jr., 76, of Ottumwa died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Agency United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Albert and the Rev. Judy DeWebber officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, with family visitation planned from 6-8 p.m. Friday, at Alexander-Johnson Funeral Chapel in Ottumwa. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Wapello County.

Mr. Fitzgerald was born July 10, 1924, in Floris, the son of Hobart M. and Elsie Post Fitzgerald. He married Marjory Ellen Boos Aug. 6, 1945, at First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa.

He graduated from Eldon High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army from April 1943 to April 1946, serving in the European Theatre of Operations with the 13th Armor of the 67th Infantry.

He worked for Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline in Birmingham from 1964-1983.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a lifetime member of Walter B. Shaefer Post No. 775; and a past commander of the American Legion Haney-Branna(n) Unit of Birmingham.

He was a member of Agency United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jerry and John Fitzgerald, both of Fairfield, Bill Fitzgerald of Ottumwa and Don Fitzgerald of Birmingham; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Ronald Eugene Fitzgerald; two brothers, Darwin and Wallace Fitzgerald; and two sisters, Mary Troxel and Dorothy Bennett.
