Lillian H. Sterling

Lillian H. Sterling, 88, of Hedrick died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Deuser Cemetery near Farson.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice, Inc. or Palliative Care Unit at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Sterling was born Jan. 12, 1912, near Pekin in Jefferson County, the daughter of Rolla Luke and Mina Hanna Hadley. She married Harry R. Sterling Feb. 18, 1932, in Ottumwa.

She and her husband started farming in Wapello County in 1932, and she was his partner and bookkeeper at the Farson Lumber and Grain Company in Farson until her retirement in 1965. She also served as the clerk of Competine Township for many years.

She was a member of the Pekin United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Harry R. "Bob" Sterling Jr. and Gary A. Sterling, both of Hedrick; one daughter, Karen Gooden of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and many stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons; one brother, William Hadley; and one sister, Ruth Hadley......
