Leo Cross

OTTUMWA - Leo Richard Cross, 68, of Bettendorf died April 20, 1998, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.

He was born March 5, 1930, in Fairfield to Lester and Iren Cross. He married Marilyn Glenn on Feb. 15, 1953, in Kahoka, Mo.

He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1950. He was in the grocery business for 60 years at several stores including Benner, National, Randall's and Easter Foods. After retiring he worked at Midwest Pharmacy. He served in the Iowa National Guard and the Army Reserves. He was president of the Fort Madison Coin Club and was a member of Bettendorf Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Christine Mechem of Davenport, Sheree Rogers of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Suzanne Phillips of Davenport; a son, Mark Cross of Bettendorf; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; two sisters, Eleanor Lapora of Divide, Colo., and Marjorie Nelson of Indianapolis; a brother, Donald Finger of East Moline, Ill.; and two nephew whom he raised, William Cross of Oakland and Robert Cross of California.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Olen Cross, his parents and a granddaughter.

The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bettendorf Christian Church. Burial will be Thursday in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Weerts Funeral Home and one hour prior time to the service Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to his church or American Lung Association.
