Son of H. and Clara Ella Cook-Clark. Harry was one of ten children.

Harry lived in Lovilia, Iowa and went to Lovilia Schools, graduating with the class of 1940.

Harry was employed in Burlington, Iowa prior to entering the United States Navy on November 7, 1942. He trained for duty as a Machinist Mate in Missouri.

When assigned to the USS Fetchteller Destroyer Escort-157 as a Machinist Mate Second Class, Harry then took part in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign.

On May 5, 1944, the Fetchteller, while on duty in the Mediterranean Sea, was torpedoed by German U-Boat U-967 under the command of Lt. Commander Albrecht Brandi and sank at 4:00 a.m. There were 186 survivors and 29 sailors went down with the ship. Harry E. Clark was one of the 29 who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Harry was awarded the Purple Heart on October 27, 1944.

Mr. Clark is survived by two siblings, Mrs. Wilma Bryant of Knoxville and Mrs. Edith Barnes of Albia.

Harry was later joined in Heaven by his parents, Clara and Fred Clark; and seven siblings, Howard, Ray, Pearl, Ella, Vince, Gene, and Lois.

Harry E. Clark will always be remembered and honored as a loving son, brother, uncle and American Hero.

Memorial services will be 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA, with Chaplain Wolfram officiating.
