Orval Myers dies

OTTUMWA - Orval O. Myers, 77, Ottumwa, formerly of Fairfield, died at 9 p.m. Sunday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Rev. Laurence Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery at Pleasant Grove. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial has been established to his church.

Myers was born Nov. 3, 1909 in Fairfield, the son of Walter A. and Katie Kia Stanford Myers. He gradauted from Fairfield High School and Iowa Success School in Ottumwa. A resident of Ottumwa since 1936, he owned Broadmoor Cafe from 1938 to 1948 and Molly's Restaurant from 1946-1973, both in Ottumwa. He retired in 1973. He had served on the submarine patrol with the Civil Air Patrol and as a flight instructor with the Army Air Corps in World War II.

He was a past president of the Evening Kiwanis Club and the South Side Boosters, was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottumwa, Empire Masonic Lodge 269 AF and AM, Davenport Consistory, the Ottumwa Shrine Club, Kaaba Shrine, Davenport, and a past member of BPOE Elks 347. He married Florenc Stucker Aug. 24, 1934 in Fairfield. She survivies.

Also surviving are a daughter, Molly Naumann of Ottumwa; two grandchildren; a brother, Robert D. Myers of Libertyville and a sister, Marjorie Herriott of Indiana.
