Mrs. J. M. Nelson Dies At Age 85
Native Of Sweden Had Lived In Ottumwa 54 Years; Funeral Sunday.
Mrs. Christine Nelson, 85, widow of J. M. Nelson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Larson, 144 N. Ward St., Thursday at 1:40 PM. She was born in Knared Holland, Sweden, April 3, 1850. She came to the United States in 1881. She had lived in Ottumwa and Wapello County since that time, 54 years ago. She was a member of the Munterville Lutheran Church. Surviving are one son, Fred Nelson, Ottumwa route 2; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Goff of Ottumwa route 2 and Mrs. Joseph Larson of Ottumwa; one sister, Mrs. Andrew Carlson of Dudley; 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter and three sons. Short funeral services will be held at the Larson residence, 144 N. Ward St., Sunday at 1 PM and at the Munterville Lutheran church at 2 PM, conducted by the Rev. Carl Ericson assisted by the Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen. Burial be made in the Munterville cemetery. Friends may call at Johnson's funeral Chapel until 10 AM Saturday, when the body will be returned to the Larson home.
