Ottumwa Courier January 14, 1936

Mrs. Ethel Austin, 55, wife of W. H. Austin, Agency route 1, died at the Ottumwa hospital at 7 AM today. She was the daughter of Elliott and Katherine Karns and was born in Corning, August 8, 1880. She had lived in Wapello County for the last 24 years. She was a member the Agency Methodist Episcopal Church. Surviving are her husband, W. H. Austin; two sons, Hollis Austin of Waukegan Illinois, and Elmer at home; five daughters, Mrs. Mabel Harville of Ottumwa, Mrs. Clara Briles of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Freda Henness of Ottumwa, Mrs. Zola Hermann of Agency route 1, and Iona Austin at home; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Burnett of Ottumwa; one great aunt, Mrs. Floretta Nugen of New London, and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard. Funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral Chapel at 1 PM Thursday and at 2 PM at the Agency Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted by the Rev. C. S. Reed. Burial be made in the Agency cemetery.
