Aged Resident Of City Is Dead
David A. Houdyshell, 84, Lived In Ottumwa When Town Was But Hamlet.
One of the longtime residents of Ottumwa and David A. Houdyshell, 84, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. O. Ford, 320 Randolph St. at 9:35 AM today. Mr. Houdyshell lived in Ottumwa during the pioneer days of the city, before it was buildup to any great extent. He was the son of Andrew and Elzara Houdyshell and was born in Illinois, April 17, 1851. He came to Wapello County and Ottumwa, when a small Boy and had lived here since. Surviving are two sons, George of Davenport and Robert of Ottumwa; two daughters, Mrs. Jennie Shockley of Creston and Mrs. Ford; a sister, Mrs. C. B. Streeby (sp?) of Ottumwa; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His wife, Emma preceded him in death 23 years ago. Funeral services will be held at the home, 320 Randolph St., Monday at 3 PM, conducted by the Rev. E. R. Mitchell. Burial be made in the Ottumwa cemetery. The body will be at the Johnson funeral Chapel until 10 AM Sunday when it will be returned to Mrs. Ford's home.
