James B. Davis, 88, formerly of 912 West Third Street, died at 7:10 a.m. today, April 14, in Good Samaritan Center. He was born July 14, 1893, in Chillicothe, Mo., to Evan R. and Bridget J. McNamara Davis. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he attended Catholic schools and the local business school. He owned and operated Davis Plumbing and Heating and was owner to the first franchise for Roto-Rooter in this area. He was a Navy veteran of World War I and served for five years as a pipefitter in World War II. He returned to private business retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and Knights of Columbus, Council No. 888. He married Marie Wilson, May 27, 1924. She died in 1945. Survivors: sons, William E. of St. Louis, Mo. and James E. of Davenport; daughters, Margaret “Maggie Bottorff and Mary Ann Berrier of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for James B. Davis, 88, formerly of 912 W. Third St., who died at 7:10 a.m., April 14 in Good Samaritan Center will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church. The Revs. William Wiebler and Paul Donahue will be co-celebrants for Mass of the Resurrection. Burial: Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jim and Don Bottorff, Bob Beary, Mike Berrier, J.C. Frost and Wayne Johanson. Rosary: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home.
