OTTUMWA COURIER March 26, 1948

Mrs.Bridget Jane Davis, 91, of 1964 Greenwood drive, died Friday at 7:23 p.m. at the St. Joseph hosital where she had been a patient since March 10 when she suffered a fractured hip as a result of a fall.

The daughter of John and Julia McNamara, she was born October 15,1853 in Buffalo, N.Y. While still a child, she moved with her family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her marriage to Evan R. Davis took place there. The couple moved to Chillicothe, Mo., in 1889 and came to Ottumwa in 1901. Mr. Evans was employed as a machinist with the Milwaukee railroad. He preceded his wife in death November 22, 1940. A resident of Ottumwa for the past 47 years, Mrs. Davis was active in community affairs, having been a member of the Altar and Rosary society and affiliated with the I.A. to the L.a. of M., the Milwaukee Women's club, and the women's auxiliary to the Rainbow division. In addition to her own family, Mrs. Davis had reared and educated four other families of relatives. She made her home with her son, Norbert E. Davis of 1964 Greenwood drive since 1944.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by two sons, John Thomas in infancy and Philo E. in 1938; and one grandson, Robert E., who was killed in the Philipine islands during the last war.

She is survived by four sons, Norbert E., James B., and John C. all of Ottumwa and David R. of Cedar Rapids; one great-grand child, Nancy of Marengo; and seven grandchildren, Mary Ann, Paul, William and James, all of Ottumwa, Norbert of Milwaukee and John C. of Marengo.
