MYRTLE MATTHIAS

Mrs. Myrtle MATTHIAS, 97, of 1531 Mabel died Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. at St Joseph Hospital.

She was born Jan. 4,1880, in Van Buren County to Paul and Etta HENDRICKS GIRE. She had lived in Ottumwa since 1947 and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventists.

She married William MATTHIAS on June 20, 1894, at Keosauqua. He died in 1957.

Surviving are sons Vernon of Fairfield and Paul of Moline, Ill.; daughters Etta HAWBAKER, Bessie BROOKS and Irene WILLIAMS, all of Ottumwa; and 23 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Vernon Rayphoe of First Foursquare Church officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
