Bessie Brooks

Bessie E. BROOKS, 77, formerly of 2110 E. Main St., died at 12:08 p.m. April 20, 1983, in Mahaska Manor in Oskaloosa.

She was born Nov. 5, 1905, in Van Buren County to William Wesley and Myrtle Thema MATHIAS. A resident of Ottumwa for 30 years, she married Oscar BROOKS June 11, 1921. He died Jan. 22, 1958.

Survivors: a sister, Etta HAWBAKES of Farmers Branch, Texas; a brother Paul "Jack" MATHIAS of Moline, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Service: 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. James Millsaps of First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial: Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
