William MATTHIAS

William W. MATTHIAS, 85, 154 South Elm street, died at his home at 9:30 a.m. today.

He was born in Van Buren county November 5, 1871, the son of Peter and Lucinda ZOPH MATTHIAS. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 10 years.

He was married to Myrtle GIRE, June 20, 1894, at Keosauqua. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Vernon of Fairfield and Paul of Moline, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Etta HAWBAKER, Mrs. Bessie BROOKS and Mrs. Irene WILLIAMS, all of Ottumwa; 20 grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lydia TROUT of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel awaiting the completion of arrangements.

MATTHIAS Services

Funeral services for William W. MATTHIAS, 85, who died at his home at 154 South Elm street Monday morning, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Johnson funeral chapel with the Rev. A. G. Edwards, pastor of the North Side Nazarene church, in charge.

Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
