Joseph Conger

Joseph M. Conger, 83, of 203 N. Ward died today at 7:20 a.m. at the St. Joseph Hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Morrison Conger and was born in Kansas Jan. 28, 1880. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 18 years.

He married Hettie Adams, who preceded him in death in 1941. His marriage to Hellen Doud took place Feb. 14, 1948 in Albia. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Paul Conger of Moline, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Ada Paxson of Evanston, Ill., Mrs. Opal Cowan of Libertyville, Mrs. Leona Hultach of Lockridge and Mrs. Virginia Rupe of Ollie; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Conger of Ottumwa and Sherman Conger of Centerville; and one sister, Mrs. Rees McBurney of Burbank, Calif.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

The body is at the Johnson Funeral Chapel.
