The Rev. Russell L. Selix, 50, of 808 Queen street, died suddenly this morning at 9:30 as he was trimming a tree at 502 Clinton avenue. Death resulted from a heart attack which caused him to fall from the tree.
He was born in Davis county July 13, 1896, the son of Thomas and Retta Selix. For the past 28 years he has been a resident of Ottumwa and is well known for his work as a minister of the Penecostal church. A veteran of World War 1, he enlisted in the army at Centerville on April 30, 1917, and served in France with Company D, 168th Infantry, Rainbow Division, from October 17, 1917, until the end of the war. He received his discharge from the army at Camp Mills, N.Y. on July 8, 1919. On November 23, 1919, he was married to Ethyle Jones in Ottumwa.
Two brothers precede him in death.
The Rev. Mr. Selix is survived by his wife; three sons, Lowell, Sherwood and Cleophas Selix, all at home; one daughter, Beverly Selix, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Selix of Unionville, Iowa, and two brothers, John Selix of Des Moines and Walter Selix of Ottumwa.The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel awaiting completion of arrangements.
