BLOOMFIELD — Elaine Dykes, 75, of Bloomfield, Iowa, died July 31, 2009, at the Hospice House in Ottumwa, Iowa. Elaine was born Aug. 12, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Morris R. and Inez M. Owen Longnecker. She married Ray Dykes on June 16, 1953, in New York City, New York, on the Bride and Groom Show.

She taught school for 44 years in the communities of Maxwell, Sheldahl, Ankeny and Ottumwa, Iowa.Elaine was a member of the Iowa State Education Assoc., Wapello Co. Retired School Personnel, Retread Motorcycle club, American Trike Association, Farm Bureau and Cattleman's Assoc. Elaine and Ray enjoyed many motorcycle road trips and rallies throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. They also were actively involved in a cow-calf farming operation.

She is survived by a son, Darvin (Kim) Dykes of Bloomfield, Iowa; a daughter, Dixie (Fred) Hickcox of Ogden, Iowa; grandchildren, Clint Markley, Brock Dykes and Kyla Dykes Kelley; and great-granddaughters, Alanna Markley, Kaydence Markley and Kylee Kelley; brother, Richard (Linda) Longnecker; and sister-in-law, Martha Longnecker.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two infant daughters; her parents and two brothers, Keith and Billy. The family will be at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa, on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. for a celebration of life gathering. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties and to the Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon, Iowa.
