OTTUMWA — Sharon “Sherry” Sample, 67, departed to Heaven on July 31, 2007.
Sherry was born in 1940 in Ottumwa to Laurence Bruce and Alice Wilke Leedom. She married her best friend Richard Sample May 3, 1958.
Sherry graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1958 and remained in Ottumwa. Sherry was an active member with the Ottumwa Landlords and had worked with the Blood Bank, Hi-Tech Credit Union, McWilliams Drug and Creative Framing. Sherry was a Homemaker, Mentor, Accountant, Financial Advisor, Leader and Best Friend. Sherry was a warm, caring and loving Mother to her children, grandchildren and a devoted loving wife. Sherry enjoyed living in the country, gardening, planting flowers and she loved her cat, Tiger. She had a great talent for cooking.
Sherry never knew a stranger and she made everyone she met feel welcome. She has made a difference in the lives of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family.
Surviving is her husband, Richard; two sons, Timothy Sample of Franktown, Colorado and Michael (Mary Beth) Sample of Ottumwa; two daughters, Valarie Sample of Ottumwa and Deborah (John) Schulte of Harper, Iowa; a special brother-in-law, Michael Sample of Boulder, Colorado; four grandchildren, Ashleigh (Luke) Bresch, Travis Sample, Ryan Schulte and Lauren Schulte; her mother, Alice M. Leedom; two sisters, Sandra (Don) Huffman and Kathy (Sam) Trimble and a brother, Michael (Valerie) Leedom.
Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Laurence Leedom and her brother-in-law, William (Bill) Sample.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sherry Sample Memorial Charities, in care of Community 1st Credit Union, 235 Richmond Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
