OTTUMWA — Elmer G. Lewzader, 83, of 723 E. Alta Vista Ave., died at 10:45 p.m. June 27, 2009, at Hospice House.He was born March 6, 1926, in Davenport, Iowa, to Elmer and Mabel Richards Lewzader.A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. He was an engineer, working 43 years for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1989.Surviving are a son, Michael (Jacki) Lewzader of Omaha, Neb.; two grandsons, Christopher and Grant; two sisters, Doris Wilz of Ottumwa and Rosemary (Larry) Petri of Pocahontas, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents.His body has been cremated. No services are planned.Memorials may be made to Hospice for floral and plant decorations for their new center, 312 E. Alta Vista Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
