OTTUMWA — Joseph Elder Orman, 93, of 12491 55th St., died at 6 a.m. Jan. 19, 2009, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born March 4, 1915, in Ottumwa to Jonathan and Cora May Wilson Orman. He married Dorothy Belle Johnson July 11, 1943. She preceded him in death Aug. 20, 2000. He married LuRose Leach Aug. 20, 2002.He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a surveyor. He was an electrician for Iowa Southern Utilities, retiring in 1980, and he farmed in Davis County for over 20 years.

Surviving is his wife, LuRose; a daughter, JoAnne (Vern) Slaymaker of Ottumwa; a son, Jonathan David (Karen) Orman of Floris; a stepson, Joe (Sharon) Leach of Fairfield; a stepdaughter, Chris (Dennis Johnstone) Crosser of Colorado; three grandchildren, Eric Slaymaker, Marc Orman and Stacie Orman Baumann; two stepgrandchildren, Michael Leach and Kimberly Broz; a sister, Margie Downing of Ottumwa; two nieces, Linda and Karen Downing and a nephew, Gerald Downing.He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Dalton Baumann; two sisters, infant Rebecca Orman and Lillian A. Dullard.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Albert of Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Friday.Memorials may be made to Ottumwa Public Library or Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.Obituary
