OTTUMWA — John Bernard Sheehan, 78, of Columbus, Ohio (formerly of Overland Park, Kan.), passed away on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008.Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 8311 W. 93rd, Overland Park, Kan., with Mass immediately following.John was born in Ottumwa, Iowa to Bernard and Elizabeth Sheehan. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and attended St. Ambrose College before moving to the Kansas City area. John was a veteran, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in the Korean War. His passion for sports, most especially football, basketball, baseball and golf, and his unique sense of humor are gifts he passed along to his children that will forever be treasured.John was preceded in death by his wife, Martha in 1995.He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Hayes of Kansas City; son Tom Sheehan and wife Joanne of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren Michael Whitaker and wife Carmen, Jonathan and Stephen Hayes, Riley and Megan Sheehan; great-grandchildren Alex and Emily Whitaker; his sister Jeanne Traxler; as well as his nephews, nieces and their children.Condolences may be expressed at: www.porterfuneralhome.com.Arrangements: Porter Funeral Homes and Crematory, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kan.
