JACK COLLETT DIES AT 73

John "Jack" Collett 73 of 510 E. Finley Ave; retired Ottumwa Policeman, died Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Sunnyslope Sanatariam.

Collett joined the Ottumwa Police Dept. in June of 1931 and except for a short period of time was a member of the force until he retired July 1, 1957. At that time he was a Sergeant on daytime squad duty. Previously he had been a carpenter.

The son of Thomas & Marie Manley Collett; he was born in Monroe County. He had resided in Ottumwa for 45 years. He was a member of the Bible Chapter and of the Police Association.

His marriage to Mina Hartley took place Nov. 29, 1922 at Albia, Iowa. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters;Mrs. Betty M. Rash and Mrs. Gretchen Saffell; both of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, four great~grandchildren; two brothers Frank Collett of Lovilla and David Collett of Carbon Cliff, ILL. Five sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

THe service will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Reece Funeral home. J. Elbert Matthews of the Bible Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Policemen will serve as Pallbearers. They are; Don Hoffmann, Maurice McGlothen, Bud Sheridan, Adrian Bard, Paul Moss and Otto Simmers.
