Eugene L. "Bill" Himes
OTTUMWA — Eugene L. “Bill” Himes, 83, of Ottumwa, entered into new life on Sept. 9, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Iowa City.

He was born on June 21, 1925 in Yuma, Colo. to Albert and Vesta Roubal Himes. He married Bernice Smelser on March 6, 1945 in Kirksville, Mo.; she preceded him in death on May 27, 1997. He then married Lois Plett on April 28, 2001 in Ottumwa.

He was raised and educated in Yuma, Co. and Kirksville, Mo., graduating from Kirksville High School. He had been employed at John Deere and Co. in Ottumwa for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Batavia and the Eldon Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife; a son, David Himes of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Sean and Heather Himes; and a great-grandson, William Himes; a brother, Lyle Himes of Modesto, Calif.Besides his first wife he was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Edward and Don Himes; and his sisters, Elma Truitt and Carol Hennes.His body has been cremated.Funeral services will be Saturday morning, 11 a.m. at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Batavia with Pastor Garry Shepherd officiating. Inurnment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Kirksville, Mo. at a later date.Open visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the Church.Memorials may be directed to the Wapello Co. Humane Society
