S.A. Shorty Mefford 68, veteran farmer and Farm Bureau Member of this county died at Mt.Pleasant at 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Mefford had been a well driller and farmer for twenty six years; living in Ottumwa Route six for twenty years.

He had been a Knights of Pythias member for forty~five years and a director of the Wapello County Farm Bureau when it was first organized.

Surviving are his wife Alice; one daughter Mrs. Audrey French; a grandaughter Alice French and a step grandaughterDorothy Cottrell; all of Ottumwa; route six; one stepson George Cottrell of Superior, Wy.; two sisters Mrs. Lantha Harding of Eddyville and Mrs. Ella Johnson of Portland, Oreg.; one brother Robert of Foster, and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters.

Funeral services wil be held At Johnson's Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Burial will be made in the Trussel Cemetery near Blakesburg.
