OTTUMWA — James M. Shepherd, 70, of 7133 120th Ave., died at 8:06 a.m. Aug. 10, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born May 14, 1938, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to James M. and Esther “Bunny” Carter Shepherd Sr. He married Judy Blanchard May 16, 1959.He was a chef at the Ottumwa Hospital and had been a school guard at Anne G. Wilson School in Ottumwa. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Todd (Maria) Shepherd and James E. Shepherd, both of Andover, Kan.; a daughter, Kim (Tom) Walls of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Anisha, Jacob, Meriah, Tia, Raegan, Tomika and Jeffrey; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Macie; four sisters, Mildred “Sook” Rupe, Lillian Park, Bonnie Randall and Sandy VanAlst, all of Ottumwa; two brothers, George and John Shepherd, both of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Ray Shepherd.Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Following visitation his body will be cremated.A memorial has been established to the family.
