The following death notice appeared in the Chicago Daily News on February 4, 1946:

"HUNNELL -- Joseph O. Hunnell, beloved husband of Mayme (nee Campbell), loving father of Mary Louise Crowell, grandfather of Ann, Mary and John Crowell Jr. Requiem mass Tuesday, 9 a.m., at St. Ambrose Church. Burial Holy Sepulchre. At chapel, 5203 Lake Park Ave. Ottumwa (Iowa) papers please copy."
