OTTUMWA - Dorotha E. Dyer, 94, formerly of 834 S. Webster, died at 2:40 a.m. March 3, 2004, at Ottumwa Manor.

She was born July 29, 1909 in Albia to James C. and Theletha Means Besco. She married Everett C. Dyer May 25, 1934. He preceded her in death Nov. 7,1991.

She was a member of Willard St. United Methodist Church, Ottumwa Chapter #112 Order of Eastern Star, Christina Court #3, Order of the Amaranth, Social Order of Beauceants #9 and Wapello White Shrine #4. Dorotha's commitment to family, friends, and community was a testament to her gentle, giving nature. She was very proud of her family, which filled her heart with joy. She also enjoyed chatting with friends and neighbors over a cup of coffee. Many Ottumwa residents knew Dorotha as a wonderful baker. Her homemade cakes, pies, and famous cinnamon rolls brought smiles to many faces. She worked for the Ottumwa Y.M.C.A. for 8 years, and enjoyed interacting with the community.

Surviving are three daughters, Cynthia Augeson of Hector, Minn., Lori Young of Kechi, Kan., Lynanne Dyer of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren; sister, Avene Nolte of Adams, Minn.; and brother, Louis Besco of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Evelyn Dyer and Rebecca Courtney; and four brothers, Jerome, George, Paul and James Besco.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin 1 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Willard St. United Methodist Church.
