William ‘Jerry' Gerald Pettit July 2, 1914 — Nov. 10, 2003

"William "Jerry" Gerald Pettit of Sonora died Monday at a Sonora care home. He was 89. / He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, and lived in Sonora for six years. He previously lived in Twain Harte for eight years. He was a carpenter by trade. / His family said he was an avid fisherman in mountain streams, enjoyed wood-carving, hiking and driving his motorhome all over the United States, Mexico and Alaska. / Mr. Pettit is survived by his wife, Bernice Pettit of Sonora; a son, William Pettit Jr. of Oregon; a daughter, Sherryl Brinkley of Walnut Creek; stepdaughters, Diane Wetzel of Fresno and Lisa Lowell of Austin, Texas; stepson, Brian Runner of Merced; grandchildren, William Pettit of Sacramento and Robert Pettit of Oregon; stepgrandchildren, Dan and Carolyn Wetzel and twins, Denise and Jennifer Runner, all of Merced; brothers, Clair and Mel Pettit, both of Ottumwa, Iowa; and a sister, Twila Rupe of Aledo, Ill. / A memorial service will be held at a later date. / Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements."
