OTTUMWA~~Alma Marcille Eakins Hartley, 83, formerly of 429 N. Hancock, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center.

She was born on a farm west of Ormanville on a cold winter day, Dec. 16, 1922 to Fred and Fannie Hazel Cook Eakins. She married Joe Hartley on June 22, 1941 in Lancaster, Mo., on a beautiful spring day. Her husband, Joe, preceded her in death on July 26, 1984.

She attended Center Country School and graduated from eighth grade.

She was a cook for many years at Molly?s Restaurant, later at the Good Samaritan Home and the airbase. She also did volunteer work for St. Joseph Hospital and the blood bank. She was a homemaker and a wonderful caregiver to her father, husband and brother. She will be remembered for the beautiful handmade quilts her and Joe created for her family and friends. Her detailed quilting was outstanding and admired.

She attended and was a member of Ottumwa Baptist Temple for more than 60 years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children Paul E. (Mary) Hartley of Ottumwa, JoElla M. Hagedon of Becker, Minn., and Roy D. (Diane) Hartley of Ottumwa. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Tina L. (David) Rukgaber of Ottumwa, Kimberly M. (Mark) Frymoyer of Kellogg, Iowa, Rebecca J. (Ron) Vaughn of Big Lake, Minn., Steven M. (Rhonda) Hagedon of St. Cloud, Minn., Robert M (Rebecca) Hagedon of Ft. Mohave, Ariz., Daniel J. Hartley and Joseph M. Hartley of Ottumwa. Also surviving are several great grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Lucy (Mancel) Proctor of Ottumwa and Bertha Keller of Glendale, Ariz., and a sister-in-law Faye Eakins of Ottumwa, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Henry, Floyd and Alva Eakins; five sisters, Elsie Phillips, Blanche Reinhart, Altie Eakins, Alice Ritter and Ruth Eakins.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ottumwa Baptist Temple with Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will begin noon Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Chapel with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A memorial has been established to Hospice and Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center.
