OTTUMWA — Opal L. Northup, 93, formerly of 806 S. Webster, died at 11:23 p.m. May 15, 2008, at The Good Samaritan Society, Ottumwa.

She was born May 31, 1914 in Davis County to Homer and Grace Goode Atteberry. She married James Leonard Northup Dec. 25, 1932. He preceded her in death Aug. 16, 2002.A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1932, she worked for W.T. Grant for a short time and with her husband, owned and operated Northup Heating, Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal Shop.

She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a former member of King’s Daughters. She enjoyed crocheting, playing the piano and organ.Surviving is her son, Larry Leonard Northup of Ottumwa; a granddaughter, Tessa Beamer of Buffalo, Iowa; and a great-granddaughter, Mackenna Beamer of Buffalo, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, La Nora Hardy; and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Northup.Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bethany Baptist Church with Joe Selix officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.Visitation will start after 10 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday.Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church.
