CIVIL WAR VET DIES HERE TODAY

James W. Poncey, 85 yr. old Civil War veteran living in Riverview addition, died at the Ottumwa Hospital at 1:30 a.m. today.

He was born in Ohio and had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 50 years. He enlisted in theCivil War January 28, 1861 as a volunteer in Company F. 19th regimental Infantry.

Although Mr. Poncey was known here by that name; the name on his Army discharge papers Pontzins, it was learned today.

Besides his wife Mrs. Margaret Ellen Poncey; he is survived by five daughters, and two sons. They are Mrs. Cora Hobbs, Mrs. Minnie Shepherd, Mrs. Bertha Dewitt, Mrs. Rosa Jones, Mrs. Ora Thompson, John Poncey and Mart Poncey of Ottumwa; fourty-four grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Pentecostal church Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The Reverand A.D. McClure, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be at Shaul Cemetery.
