OTTUMWA — Harley A. Brisendine, 98, formerly of 102 W. Finley, died at 4:30 p.m. April 1, 2008, at Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehab Center.He was born July 23, 1909 in Eldon to William and Ollie Crouse Brisendine. He married Icle Lorene Shepherd Jan. 10, 1942. She preceded him in death Feb. 20, 2007.A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he had worked at John Morrell and Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1972.

He was a member of Woodmen of the World.Surviving are three sons, Maurice (Shirley) Havelock of Galesburg, Ill., Keith (Lois) Brisendine and Jerry (Teresa) Brisendine both of Ottumwa; two daughters, Mary (Jim) Hull and Linda (Walt) Estes both of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; five stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and a brother, Richard Brisendine.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Mattox officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehab Center Special Unit.Obituary may be viewed at: www.legacy.com/ottumwacourier/Obituaries.asp
