Nedra Mullins Gates
OTTUMWA – Nedra Collene (Mullins) Gates, 97, of Kirksville, Mo., formerly of Ottumwa, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.

Born Nov. 2, 1910, near Downing, Mo., she was the daughter of Ollie and Josephine (Yore) Mullins. On Oct. 4, 1936, Nedra was united in marriage to Pearl E. “Toots” Gates, who preceded her in death on April 30, 1987. Nedra was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Greta Mullins Natwick, her stepfather, Roy Gregory and her stepmother, Pauline Mullins.

She is survived by one half brother, Bobbie Mullins and wife, Marge, of Gibbs, Mo.; one stepsister, Corinne Thrasher of Memphis, Mo.; one stepbrother, Leon Spray of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and one stepdaughter, Helen Randall and husband, Ray of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.

Nedra was a graduate from the Downing High School with the Class of 1929. Nedra and her husband lived all of their married life in Ottumwa, Iowa, where she was employed at Morrell Company and J.C. Penney. After her retirement she volunteered in the activities department at River Hills Care Center. She was a member of the East End Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and was a member of Miriam Chapter of Guild. Nedra was also a member of the International Order of Kings’ Daughters and Sons. After moving to Kirksville, Mo., in 1988 she became an associate member of the First United Methodist Church and was an RSVP volunteer.Family will receive friends Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Nedra will then be transported to Shrine of Memories in Ottumwa, Iowa, where family will then receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. A service will then be held at 2:00 p.m. and entombment will follow at Shrine of Memories in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Nedra Gates may be made to Twin Pines Adult Care Center Residents Christmas Fund. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, Mo. 63501.
