OTTUMWA — Helen L. Barker, 81, of 9975 Bladensburg Road, died at 8:43 a.m. March 5, 2008, at Hospice House.

She was born Sept. 19, 1926 in Ottumwa to Ronald and Marion Potter Hawk. She married Billy Barker Oct. 26, 1946.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1944, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pioneers and Ottumwa Women’s Club. She worked for 33 years for Northwestern Bell, retiring as a repair clerk in 1977. She then worked for Dr. Fletcher for six years.Surviving is her husband, Billy; and a sister, Eilene Cox.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her stepmother, Lily Dahlen Hawk.Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Mathew Andersen officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will be open at 9 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home.The casket will remain closed.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Heartland Humane Society, P.O. Box 1149, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
