ELDON — Geraldine F. Thompson, 83, of Eldon, entered into new life on Feb. 16, 2008 at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.She was born on Aug. 15, 1924 in Ottumwa to Marion and Correl Draper Eakins. She married Rodney Thompson on Oct. 25, 1945 in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1960.

She was raised and educated in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School in 1944. She lived her entire adult life in Eldon where she was employed by various area hospitals and nursing homes, and later for the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown where she retired due to health reasons. Her favorite hobbies included quilting and crocheting.

She is survived by her son Ronald (Marty) Thompson of Eldon, her daughter-in-law Twyla Thompson of Agency, nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Her sisters Lois Fisher of Cedar Rapids and Jean Van Gorp of Ottumwa.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her son John R. Thompson, her parents, a sister Leona Reeve, her brothers Donald and Ronald Eakins.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon with Pastor David Albert officiating. A private interment will be at Eldon Cemetery. There will be no open visitation and the family will greet friends from 10 a.m. Tuesday until service time. A memorial fund has been established.
