NATIVE OF COUNTY DIES AT AGE 89

Manuel Elkins 89, of 514 Burrhus street died Saturday at 7:45 p.m. at the Wapello County Home after a brief illness.

He was born in Wapello County on Dec. 25, 1870, the son of Edgar and Mary Huffman Elkins. He had been a resident of the Ottumwa area most of his life. He was an employee of the Blunk Construction Co. for 58 years prior to his retirement Oct. 3, 1951.

Surviving are a brother David Elkins of Ottumwa, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Johnson funeral chapel. The Rev. Keith Knauss, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church will officiate. Burial will be in Ormanville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Roy Orman, Emery Orman, Francis Bitner, Eugene Gallup, and Clay Dixon.
